The diagnostic codes can be checked with either diagnostic equipment or by shorting the pins E1 and TE1. The code P1220/14 describe the timing control system malfunction. The reasons are as follows:
1. Open or short circuit in the control valve system.
2. Timing control valve may be defective.
3. Air in the diesel fuel system.
4. Fuel filter may be clogged or contaminated.
5. Fuel injection pump may be defective.
6. Fuel injection timing may be too late or early.
7. Engine control unit.
