Make sure you have a network card attached and configured (it does not matter if it is not connected).
Also make sure you have the Hard Disk controller set to IDE/Legacy on Wondos XP

I have Windows 10 running OK on VMWare Workstation Player with SATA controller (I created a 10MB second Hard disk).
