To answer your question clearly, I had DiagBox version 7.72 and Version 8.17 running fine on Windows 7 over VirtualBox 5.0.16. Ensure you have VirtualBox_Extension_Pack and VBoxGuestAdditions are installed (in full). And ensure your Hard Disk Controller is IDE..

If your hard disk controller is not IDE, you can remove the Machine without deleting all files (Remove Only), then create a new machine and use existing VDI. But before you do that, you need to ensure that IDE controller drivers are loaded in Windows. The easiest way to do that is by attaching a new very small IDE hard disk (10 mb), Windows will load the drivers for it. You can delete it after the operation.
