All T5 have a CAN bus system.

2003-2006 it very basic and only covers selected ECU (mostly convenience bus eg door locks and central locking, and a drive train CAN bus engine signals to dashpod)
CAN gateway is located in the dashpod
2006-2010 had a some changes but much the same as the ealier one but with some extras (eg radio connection)
Diagnostics still use the K-line

2010- T5.1 has a full CAN and LIN bus system
Diagnostics are done through the CAN bus

CAN = Controller area network (designed by bosch in the 1980's) - 2 wire system with error correction- runs at 125k to 1mb

LIN = Local interconnect network - single wire system with masters and slave ECU's - low speed and cost
